Is it bad to major in general music?

Everybody tells me not to major in music because there aren’t many job opportunities. Is that true?

You don’t say where you live or how far you’d travel to college.

If music production is your field, there are public colleges which do it- not just private ones.

I would say that your showreel would be the most important thing- rather than a paper degree. Hands on experience with bands and theatre will all pep your resume.

Do general music only if you’d still be happy with the course itself. Aside from law, medicine and teaching, there’s usually several ways to get into a field of work so just follow your passions in the best way you can.
